How to reduce careless mistakes.

Sharing some thoughts:

Have you ever heard someone say they bombed their exam because they made a lot of careless mistakes?

"BE MORE CAREFUL NEXT TIME" is not very effective in my experience.

Very often, careless mistakes occur because of how you structure your workings. For example, do you practise:

- highlighting key phrases
- writing down a simple english equation outlining your logic
- simplifying your equation before substituting your values

Putting your thoughts down on paper using the steps above helps you to clarify your thinking and reduces the probability of making a careless mistake.

Some students say: "I am lazy to do it for my worksheet, but I will do it for my exam."

I will then refer them to the quote above. Under the stress of exam conditions, you will likely be even more messy in your thought process - and not want to spend extra brainpower thinking about how you're "supposed" to structure your workings.

*HOW* you practise is more important than *how much* you practise.

How you practise produces HABITS; and HABITS create RESULTS.

Stay safe and practise well. - Mr Tong
